It was Jesús Anadón, the heart and soul of Vega Sicilia for so many years, who, famously asked for his opinion of Toro said that its wines were fabulous for the stewing of pears; and though it is true that in this extreme DO of some 1500 hectares whose producers have now swelled to around 42 in number much rustic, high strength wine is still made, there are just a few shining exceptions!
