Our wines from Maurodos go up a notch in complexity and price. Maurodos has about 60 ha of Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) and Garnacha, the oldest of which are ungrafted – phylloxera passed Toro by. The oak is French and American, and 20% is renewed each year. Prima, from young vines, is black-fruited and most attractively scented thanks to a small proportion of Touriga Nacional which we shouldn’t officially be mentioning; whereas San Román, from 90-year-old vines growing in stony limestone soil, is immensely rich and concentrated: Toro at its most impressive.
