Binomio

This is what happened when Stefano Inama, of Soave fame, packed his passport and headed south to team up with Fattoria La Valentina. That was in 1998, and he describes it as 'a challenge'. What made the project work was the purchase of a 4.2 ha vineyard, 400m up, south-facing and planted in the 1970's, near the Majella National Park. They bought it at auction and were the only bidder; nobody else wanted it because the yields were too low. It's planted with an old clone called Africa, named after the shape of the clusters, and viticulture is organic. 'There's no winemaking', says Stefano; 'It's just viticulture.'
